Citrine is the yellow variety of quartz; most on the market is heat‑treated amethyst or smoky quartz. Natural crystals are less common and occur as hexagonal prisms.

Hardness 7, absence of gas bubbles, and typical quartz optics (RI/birefringence) distinguish it from glass.
