Citrine is the yellow to orange variety of quartz, with color typically due to trace iron and/or heat treatment. Much commercial citrine is heated amethyst or smoky quartz.
Look for quartz’s hexagonal prisms or granular habit, high hardness that scratches glass, and absence of round gas bubbles.
