Quick facts
The specimen shows prismatic crystals with vitreous luster, conchoidal breakage and no obvious cleavage, and is transparent–translucent; purple. Purple fluorite is a main lookalike, but it typically forms cubes or octahedra and shows four perfect cleavages that part easily—features not seen here. A quick hardness test (fluorite ~4) versus quartz (7) separates them immediately.
